Pipestone
Pipestone
A soft, reddish-pink, Pipestone is a very granular pigment, and provides a lovely, soft effect when used in either washes or glazes.
Artist Notes: Noted for its granularity and soft earthy pink tone, Pipestone works beautifully in landscapes, wildlife (think canine noses and paws), and botanical studies.
Paint Maker’s Notes: Pink Pipestone, or Catlinite, is a type of clay from quarries located and preserved in Pipestone National Monument located in Minnesota. This pink earth is held sacred by local Indigenous communities and has been carved into pipes and used as a pigment.
