Gamboge

Gamboge
Gamboge lends itself beautifully to a variety of subject matter and its transparent nature is highly valued among floral and botanical artists. Gamboge is almost mustard yellow when applied full strength but when dilute it creates a range of warm, golden yellows.
Artist Notes: Mix Gamboge with Prussian Blue to create a hue very close to the original Hooker’s Green. It also mixes a bright yellow tint with Titanium White.
Paint Maker’s Notes: Original Gamboge was a highly toxic pigment that comes from the sticky yellow sap of Garcinia (sp.) trees that grow in southeastern Asia. Our Gamboge is a near replica of the original warm gold pigment (without the toxicity).
